Unitized Curtainwall Systems

Unitized curtain walls entail factory fabrication and assembly of panels and may include factory glazing. These completed units are hung on the building structure to form the building enclosure. Unitized curtain wall has the advantages of: speed; lower field installation costs; and quality control within an interior climate controlled environment. The economic benefits are typically realized on large projects or in areas of high field labor rates.

With today's advanced software and implementation of BIM (building Information Modeling), developing a complete building envelope that includes the glass, metal panels, stone veneer and other composites is much more effective than coordination of multiple trades through each required phase. Though the initial cost impact may seem slightly higher, the general conditions cost savings is typically more.

When designing a double wall system, unitizing the wall is of utmost importance, allowing the possibility of the system air space getting contaminated during the construction process due to dust and debris. Our unitized curtain wall system has been tested to no less than negative 168 PSF wind-load for both large and small missile impact, with an anchor point of 15' 4 inches. We also tested this curtain wall as 2 side captured or 4 sided structurally sealed to the same -168 PSF. NR is the first to develop and test a curtain wall to withstand 178 mile winds, this particular wall is a hardened wall which we can offer to our clients.
